Roto Dynamics Rotational Molding Capabilities

Rotational molding, also known as roto molding, is a manufacturing technique that uses quite a simple concept to produce hollow plastic products. However, although the concept is simple, the roto molding process is complicated and calls for a high level of expertise. Today, a significant percentage of roto molded products are made from polyethylene, since it is easily moldable and readily available.

Usually, the roto molding process takes anywhere between 20 minutes and a couple of hours. The period varies depending on the size and thickness of the plastic being produced. Notably, rotational molding is a versatile technology, can come in handy in the production of a wide range of plastic products. Some of the products we can make using this technology include plastic tanks, plastic housing, and many more.

Advantages of Rotational Molding

There exist other techniques for the transformation of plastics. However, roto molding has some compelling advantages, both technically and economically. Here are some of them.

1. Cheaper Tooling

Since rotational molding operates at relatively low pressure, low-cost metals can perfectly do the job. Besides, it eliminates the need for secondary tooling, further making the process more economical.

2. Material Versatility

A rotational molding company can use a wide range of polymers. Consequently, the products produced can vary in flexibility, depending on the polymer used.

3. Durability

Since we mold plastic products as a single solid piece, we use no joining techniques such as welding. Therefore, the products will have no weak spots, making them more durable. Besides, rotational molding produces thicker corners, giving the products more strength.

4. Support for Complex Shapes

Unlike other plastic molding processes, rotational molding supports the production of complex shapes. Therefore, clients are spoilt for choice when picking design options.

5. Uniform Wall Thickness

Unlike other processes, roto molding does not lead to thinning in extremities. Through constant mold rotation, we produce even walls.

6. Mold-In Graphics

Roto Dynamics can easily engrave graphics into plastic products. These graphics can include logos, symbols, or general decoration. Unlike traditional stickers, these mold-in graphics are permanent, giving you value for your money. Besides, by engraving these graphics, we eliminate secondary processing, further saving you money.

7. Color Freedom

Different people may have varying tastes in color. Luckily, rotational molding supports the production of plastics in a variety of colors. Besides, intensity blending makes it easy to shift from one color to the next. Alternatively, part designers can go for already colored materials.

8. Foam Filling

You might want your plastic parts with additional rigidity. In that case, Roto Dynamics can fill your molded parts with polyurethane foam. Besides enhancing rigidity, the foam also comes in handy with thermal insulation.

9. Faster Tooling

The cast aluminum molds used in roto molding are easy to produce, as opposed to tooling used in other molding processes.

The debut of the Aqueous

In August 2020, the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center unveiled Jen Lewin’s outdoor light installation. The interactive installation, dubbed “Aqueous,” was part of the Bright Golden Haze exhibition. During the day, the Aqueous reflects the sky, the audience, as well as the surrounding. On the other hand, it gives visitors an exciting experience by lighting up as they step or dance along the pathway.

To produce such breathtakingly beautiful artworks, Lewin combines her engineering, computer programming, and art knowledge. Besides the Aqueous, Lewin has designed other interactive works, such as the Promenade in Denver, Colorado, and the Sidewalk Harp in Minneapolis. Her incredible works have been featured in various events, including the Istanbul Light Festival.

Interestingly, the Aqueous comprises of custom-molded platforms, with anti-scratch and anti-slip top surface. Lewin built and fabricated Aqueous in her studio in Brooklyn, New York. This sculpture is one of its kind, with hundreds of interactive stand-alone platforms.
